NYC 24 hours
New York, NY, USA
From 12 noon October 2 until 12 noon October 3, 2004
When a bunch of folks interested in street photography arranged
to get together and photograph in New York for 24
hours straight, I wanted to go along but I couldn't. When they
did it a second time, I wasn't going to miss it. I showed
up, met a bunch of people I didn't know other than by their on-line
personas, and generally had a great time. I'm not
really used to shooting with others, but it was an interesting
experience. I don't think I'd do it every day, but I'd definitely
be up for something similar from time-to-time. Nor am I used to
walking for most of 24 hours. My North Carolina
drive-everywhere lifestyle caught up to me in the form of sore feet and
calves. The not sleeping wasn't too bad
(fortunately
I get to practice that in my other life) and 6 of us (out of a starting
13) managed to complete the 24 hours.
For me, the point of doing this was the experience of spending 24
hours
shooting on the street with a
bunch of mostly-strangers. That I came back with some shots that
I'm not
totally embarrassed to show is
nothing more than a bonus. The photos on the two pages linked
below are from the 7 rolls of c41 process
film I shot. I also shot 5 rolls of tmax 3200, which I have
to develop myself. Someday I'll get to it, and
maybe I'll even come back and add my nighttime shots from those
rolls. For now, this is what I have...
