This week, I have been playing at emulating traditional B&W toning using
Photoshop.  I followed the guidance I found at www.computer-darkroom.com
,
which involves applying sequential color balance layers and using blending options.

This shot, taken minutes after Allison's new haircut, was split-toned.
Please scroll down to see comparisons.

The above shot, in three different versions:

sepia version
+20/+10/-10 shadows and midtones
split-toned
same PLUS -12/0/+12 midtones and highlights
with restricted blending range

Another recent photo, from the back patio at Caffe Driade, that seemed appropriate for toning experiments..
