It has been a long time since I added any photos here. My mom died in August. She lived with us over her last summer, spending some wonderful time with us and her grandson. And I haven't felt up to posting any pictures since then. Until now. I always know spring has truly arrived in Durham when our cherry trees blossom. My mom bought us two trees when we moved in, and Allison and I planted them. They are Yoshino cherries, the same species that make such a fantastic showing every spring in the National Cherry Blossom Festival in my hometown. Most of the time their beauty exists only in my memory, but, for the few days each year that their delicate blossoms are with us, they are magical; their loveliness enhanced by the brevity of their appearance. Now they also remind me of my mom. |
